CALLAS NEWS: CALLAS at DICTA 2009, Melbourne

DICTA is the main Australian conference on digital image processing, machine vision and related areas. DICTA2009 was hosted by the Australian Pattern Recognition Society (APRS), which attracted 120 participants from Australia and the Asia Pacific regions as well as many international researchers.

The HITLab NZ developed a novel facial expression recognition system based on Quadratic facial expression models. Their work was collaborated with the Research School of Information Sciences and Engineering at the Australian National University in Canberra. A paper, describing the method and the results, was presented at the Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA 2009), about:

"A Quadratic Deformation Model for Facial Expression Recognition. Digital Image Computing and Applications"
by M. Obaid, R. Mukundan [HITNZ] , R. Goecke [University of Canberra], M. Billinghurst, H. Seichter[HITNZ]
